Full Version: Country State Selector & countries w/o states

Iggy
Hi there,

I have Country/State selector installed (dropdowns, default country, State/province required) and it works fine with the exception of some missing states/provinces; Australia for example has no entries in the OSC database for it's particular provinces.

I can add these manually of course but is there a SQL diff somewhere that provides a definitive entry for all countries worldwide? I poked around in contributions but didn't see any I thought were likely candidates.

Thanks,
Iggy

Don't dive in too fast

There are a lot of countries missing from that list, that exist in your default countries list install

For THE best info on official ISO codes, country names, admin zones etc, start at this page and make use of the links at the bottom -

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_3166-1_alpha-2

Note especially the links to ISO 3166-1 alpha-3, and to the change lists/newsletters, and to the reserved and transitionary codes.

From that info (updated as July 2007) I found lots of errors in the table for osC2.2RC1 table downloaded 13 July 2007.

In particular - for anyone not in the USA - add the subzones to the US Outlying Islands country, which you will have to create, because some of them have different postage and shipping compared to the main US, depending where you're shipping from.
Same with Portugal (Madeira and Azores) and Spain (Balearics and Canaries).

Also beware of Puerto Rico, Marshall Islands, Marianna Islands, and others outside the 50 states that are set up as US subzones - again, they have different (usually more costly) shipping than the main 50 states - split them out into their own countries, and delete them as sub zones or you could be losing money if you ship to them thinking they're the same as US mainland.

- Zaire is no longer Zaire, and both its 2 and 3 letter ISO codes have changed
- Yugoslavia became Serbia and Montenegro, then split into two countries - Serbia, and Montenegro
- Romania's 3 letter ISO code has changed
- Macau is now Macao
- Micronesia is a major "pain in the butt" change list as it affects so many islands - some incorrectly listed as US subzones, some ex-French or ex-Dutch, ex-Aussie etc etc (and American Samoa is a real cost creeper if you lump it in with USA - note - not the same as Samoa (formerly Western Samoa)).
- East Timor is Timor Leste with new 2 & 3 letter ISO codes
- Palestinian Occupied Territories = New
- Guernsey, Jersey, Isle of Man = all new (still UK postal rate zone, but has caused lots of discussion on eBay UK)
- Diego Garcia is now sub zone of British Indian Ocean Territory
- Clipperton Island now part of French Polynesia
- Big changes in French Southern Territories (now its own postal designation) and in the Antarctica group generally
- lots of name changes in African nations (and code changes)
etc
etc
etc

Those are just a few examples - there are dozens - I've spent all day today just correcting the zones and countries tables, and correcting the assignments into tax zones for use with the shipping modules.

If you're shipping outside of your home country, you need to as well.

(and I still can't find the pigging codes for the Caroline Islands sweatingbullets.gif and about a dozen other destination countries / territories - just where in Africa is Europa? (with an "a" at the end) anyone know?)

Iggy

hello,

This looks very interesting however the installation instructions do not seem very clear. I'd like to ask;
1) How to use this . sql file with a new installation.
2) How to use this .sql file with existing installations.

Many thanks

James
