I would like the shop listing product to be sort by price i.e. cheapest at the top and expensive at the bottom.
Is this possible?

Yes it is possible, check index.php for sort by ... and modify it to "sort by final_price asc"
I had posted a complete process in the forum long back ... but not able to trace :s else you could get the code snippets. You may try to search if that helps
