I would like to up grade my site, but years ago (2002) I had paid some one to add some custom fields. I know the newer version will not have so same fields. And I have over 1000 items in my shop. Is there a way to do this. I am willing to pay some one to transfer the data.

pypMyAdmin can easily backup your database and re-install into your new one. Very easy, and will take about 5 minutes or less. Doing it this way will automatically create the custom fields for you.

Hope you are not suggesting trying to run a new version of osc on an old database.
New version might need some "extra" fields over and above those on your current db.
