Hi,
I just download a OsCommerce template from somewhere and when i try to install it i got "Global register is off" message. when i change into "ON" in the php.ini file then i stuck first page of installation and never goes to next page. I quite searched whole forms but all i found was some code says write it into .htaccess files. and it does not working either. Could some explain how to install a template Step by Step please.
Thanks for any help.

Dave,

You most likely copied over some core osC files that make the shop independent of the register globals setting.

I would advise you to do one of the following:
  1. Contact the company that you purchased the template from and get installation support (good luck)
  2. Reinstall osC and design it yourself using the purchased template as a guide (you will need to know your way around PHP, HTML, CSS and JavaScript).
  3. Use STS to bring in the design elements of your template on top of the latest version of osC.
For #3, follow the easy steps in the following post:
http://forums.oscommerce.com/index.php?sho...p;#entry1131089

Hope this helped,

This forum is for the stock osc as downloaded from here, not for templates. So download the stock osc, install the stock osc, and then incorporate your template into it.

I think it isn't matter STOCK osc or template osc because both of it is OSC.

Dave,
I know it may not seem like the answer but my post above lists your only options. What has happened is that you installed the latest release of osCommerce and then you uploaded (outdated) files from the purchased template which caused osCommerce to longer be Register Globals compatible on/off.
  1. You need to reinstall osCommerce using the latest build.
  2. Ask the template provider to offer updated material or....
  3. Install STS
  4. Then use STS to bring in your purchased templates design. (I gave you a link that provided step by step procedures for this method in my post above).
If you get the template provider to support his product, then you wouldn't need steps 3 & 4.
